Bathroom Remodeling – Powder Baths to Luxury Suites

There are three typical types of bathrooms which are shown in our slider below.

Guest Bathrooms

Guest bathrooms are rooms that get used often, usually are smaller, can be full or half baths but may be visited by your guests. These are mostly used by other family members such as children, guests or young adults. Attention needs to be given to these if they are used by guests frequently. Here are a few different ideas for bathroom remodeling:

  • Depending on the size of the room incorporating two sinks is always attractive for resale.
  • Cabinets should be large enough to contain most of the day to day supplies of those using this room.

Powder Bathrooms

Powder baths (sometimes called water closets) are typically half baths and usually much smaller, but can be heavily trafficked. These smaller spaces may benefit in using a pedestal sink instead of a cabinet because there is no need for all of the wares of a full bath. However, you will lose your countertop and storage space.

Master Bathrooms

Master baths are usually just a larger version of a guest bath but may have a separate tub, shower and privacy toilet. Luxury master bath suites can give a resort like or spa feel. You may want to consider:

  • steam shower
  • sauna
  • whirlpool
  • heated floor.

Lots of thought has to go into the layout and design of a large master suite depending on the plumbing, electrical and mechanical design (ventilation) requirements.

All of these rooms require proper lighting and lots of it. Consider placing a fixture over the shower and one over the toilet. Powder baths typically use two sconces or fixtures over the sink while guest and master baths use three to four or more over each sink. Applying makeup or shaving makes lighting very critical in these rooms.
